The Advantage After School Program provides many wonderful opportunities to youth in and
around the Duanesburg area. We follow the Duanesburg Central School District calendar, and
operate Monday - Friday. The Elementary program (for those children in Kindergarten - 5th grade)
begins at 2:40 pm, and the Middle/High School program begins at 3:00 pm. Both programs end
at 6:00 pm.
What is the Comprehensive After School Program?
A School and Community based service provided by the Duanesburg Area Community Center for
youth and parents who want high quality, affordable, and well supervised after school
recreational and experiential learning activities.
What kind of things do the children get to do at the After School Program?
have time to work on their homework and get academic help if necessary
have a nutritious snack
spend time and socialize with friends.
play sports and games, participate in arts & crafts and many other fun activities

Here is just a sampling of our many activities at the Elementary After School Program:
Fencing instruction provided by Beaches Sabre Club for 3rd - 5th graders
A Traditional Music Program for all ages-- the children are learning to play such interesting musical instruments as the mandolin, lap dulcimer and banjo!
Fitness activities provided by the DACC Fitness Coordinator
Fun-filled art lessons in which we're exposed to a variety of art materials and techniques, including tesselations and lines, clay, papier mache and even mosaics.
Reading With Rowdy-- a monthly literacy program in which Rowdy the River Rat brings two River Rat players to read to us.
Recreational Games such as basketball, football and soccer
Tae Kwon Do
Active Games such as Dr. Dodgeball, Freeze Tag and Kickball
Interesting science experiments-- have you ever combined Diet Coke and Mentos? We have!
Team Building Games such as Blindfolded Skeleton and relay races
Community Service opportunites including decorations for Senior Meals
Field games such as tug-of-war and parchute games
and so many more!
The youth enrolled in the Middle/High School After School Program participate in:
Fencing instruction provided by Beaches Sabre Club
A Rocking Music Program-- the children are learning to play the acoustic guitar, drums and the adventurous ones are singing along!
Fitness activities provided by the DACC Fitness Coordinator
Fun-filled art lessons in which we're exposed to a variety of art materials and techniques, including tesselations and lines, clay, papier mache and even mosaics.
A study in forensics as we try to determine exactly who stole the cookies from the cookie jar
Recreational Games such as basketball, football and soccer
Tae Kwon Do
Active Games such as Dr. Dodgeball, Freeze Tag and Kickball
Team Building Games such as Hot Seat and Jeopardy
Environmental Studies which exposes students to our local flora and fauna through activities such as monarch butterfly tagging, monitoring freshwater streams and even tapping maple trees to make our own maple syrup
New York Wired, otherwise known as the Summer Job Program, in which youth work through on-line modules in professionalism and other work related activites
Digital photography lessons
Field games such as tug-of-war
and so much more!
Other important information:
The Advantage After School Program is open to any Duanesburg Family with school age children.
The Program is licensed and sponsored through a Grant from the New York State Office of Children and Family Services.
Fees
Fees for the program are meant to be affordable and are based on a sliding scale.
Elementary School Program (grades K - 5) is $130.00 per month
Middle School Program (grades 6 - 8) is $50.00 per month
High School Program (grades 9-12) is $20 per month
All programs have a $25 registration fee.
